SAP Announces S/4HANA Enhancements

SAP today announced S/4HANA 1610, the latest update to its ERP business suite. The new release relies on predictive and machine learning capabilities to reduce exception management for routine transactions, with the goal of enabling workforces to allocate their time more effectively.

Enhancements are particularly focused on supply chain improvements. The advanced available to promise (aATP) feature aims to assist users in managing supply allocations, while back-order processing and interactive rescheduling features can help users match supply to demand based on customer priority.

The update also includes new inventory management features. A range of SAP Fiori apps provide inventory visibility as well as the ability to track slow-moving items, monitor shelf life, and provide real-time status updates for in-transit items. Additionally, an embedded, extended warehouse management feature enables users to automate mechanical handling equipment and allocate tasks without needing to integrate with an additional system.

Environment, health, and safety management features are also included in the new release. Real-time data is used to determine operational risk and worker safety; solutions for incident management, chemical management, emissions management, and regulatory compliance also included.

The new release also includes several industry-specific solutions with an emphasis on digital transformation. Retail industry customers are provided with enhanced data; oil and gas industry customers have access to a hydrocarbon product management feature. Furthermore, the update includes all the features of SAP’s S/4HANA Finance solution.
